WPPI in Vegas 2011

WPPI, Wedding and Portrait Photographers International, is a huge convention where nearly 16,000 photographers attend every year in Vegas. This year was my first year in attendance and I must say that I was glad that I did. I attended some amazing platforms to hear top-notch photographers speak and came out more inspired than ever. I've also met some amazing new friends as well as reconnect with old friends from all over.

The only tiny complaint I had was the weather in Vegas around February and boy was it cold! I might as well have been on the East Coast where mornings were in the 50's and nights in the 40's. I've always love coming to Vegas almost every year, but never experienced winter in Vegas and was a bit disappointed that it wasn't as warm as I hoped! Next year's WPPI will be held in February as well, but at least now I know and will be more prepared if I do decide to go again. Also the convention was held at MGM and fyi, the reception stinks there! I could barely get any reception while attending the platform classes, which made it quite hard to tweet. =P

The days were pretty busy with classes and workshops, so we had one day to really explore Vegas. I didn't want to carry too much stuff so only used my 35mm 1.4 lens for the following pics.

Last time I was in Vegas was in May 2009 when there was still construction of the City Center. It's awesome to see how much has been built since then - more hotels mean more shopping! =P

When I'm in Vegas, I love to head over to Bellagio for the buffets. I've been to the Wynn before and still prefer Bellagio over Wynn. I also love the Bellagio's garden, which changes according to seasons and since February was Lunar New Year "Year of the Rabbit"; the garden was decorated just so.

After we were stuffed from the buffet, Stefani, Peter and I headed over to Serendipity 3 to try out the frozen hot chocolate made popular by the movie. There's also one in NYC, which I haven't been yet. The decor was so cute inside and the frozen hot chocolate was yum. I may need to put NYC's Serendipity on my list-to-do when I'm in the city again. =)

Gotta stop by M&M's store for fun, of course. =)

That's it. I also took more photos with my iPhone when I didn't have my camera, but will probably post that on my FB page. Hope you all enjoyed the photos! I can't wait to see what WPPI 2012 will have in store for us next year. =)

Ling & David | Willow Grove | Maternity

I am currently in Vegas for the week for WPPI Convention, but I just couldn't wait to blog this maternity session. This was definitely a last minute shoot and thank goodness for the weather being gorgeous that day. We couldn't have picked a better day, since Baby M decided to deliver a week early - two days after the session. Ling and David are high school sweethearts and you can still see the love oozing from every photo - just love it!

After doing Ling's hair and makeup, we started the session first in the bedroom, then moved over to the baby's room.

Afterwards, we headed to Willow Grove mall, which apparently is a historical site, to grab some indoor shots of the carousel and the fountain.

The day seriously could not have been a nicer day. It was definitely warm enough to head out and still be surrounded with the snow. Just gorgeous! Even Sweetie, Ling's & David's dog, came out to play a little. =)

Macy & Dave | Smithsonian Washington D.C. | Couples

Reem & Naser | Washinton D.C. Smithsonian | Couples

Celeste M | Old Town Alexandria | Portraits

I met Celeste who contacted me through Lily Bee to get some portraits done before the Fall leaves died down. We went down to the waterfront in Alexandria and the day turned out to be such a gorgeous one. I never knew the waterfront existed and definitely need to make a point to return when weather gets warmer. I love exploring new places around MD/VA/DC area; it's like seeing the area for the first time again.

I had such a fun time shooting Celeste after doing hair and makeup on her. She has the prettiest caramel-brown eyes that I've ever seen and I'm so glad to have caught that on camera. =)

The Parliament | Rockville | Portraits

It's not often that I get to take guy portraits, so this was definitely a treat. =) For one, I didn't have to put makeup on the guys, so that cuts my time significantly. Second, I didn't need to worry about dressing them since both Philip and Dongwoo have great style. The duo make up the group "The Parliament" and I love their music, so definitely check them out whenever you get a chance.

For the shoot, I just gave the boys one instruction and that's to look laid back and cool. I think they did a pretty great job overall. What do you think? =)

Lucy | Alexandria | Bridal Portraits

When Lucy mentioned to me that she wanted to get some bridal portraits done in her wedding dress, I was more than happy to oblige. Amy S. | Silver Spring | Bridal Portraits

It's always a shame to wear a wedding dress just for one day, so when I found out that Amy still kept few of hers, it was a great opportunity to put them to good use again in this bridal portrait session. I did a soft bridal makeup on Amy and pulled her hair up to the side into an updo and dress it with a beautiful cream floral accessory. The day was a bit chilly but the sun helped warm up a bit throughout the day.

Most people know Aubrey as Fafinettex3 on Youtube. Another beauty guru session that only required me to show up and shoot and if I'm not careful, I could get used to that. =P We started off at a nearby park and just worked our way around the area. I must say the place was gorgeous and definitely need to make a mental note to head back there with hubby.

Holly Ann-AeRee | Connecticut | Portrait

During my trip up to see my sister in Connecticutt, I also stopped by and visited Holly a little north of there to do a portrait session. If you don't know Holly by now, she's a blogger/beauty guru youtuber. The best thing from photographing beauty gurus is that they typically know how to do their makeup and hair, so all I had to do was show up and shoot. =) As a special request to Holly, I've been asked to jumbo-size my logo, since there have been numerous occasions where people have taken her photos and falsely advertised them.

I love the fall foliage during the time of October so we definitely took advantage of that in the first portion of the session.

Next up, we headed to a nearby lake that was just too gorgeous to pass up.

Melany & Jun | Georgetown | Engagement

Melany & Jun are just the cutest couple you could meet. They both met at a martial arts class and instantly connected. Jun loves to be silly and make others laugh while Melany loves to laugh, so it's a win-win! =) Their quirky personality just instantly meshed and when I heard that Jun proposed in a parking garage with balloons, signs and all, it was just too perfect that we had to re-enact it. So first stop was the parking lot right outside Melany's place where the proposal unfolded.

Then we headed over to Georgetown to finish up the rest of the e-session.

There was a mural that really caught Melany's eyes when walking to school nearby so we headed over there to check it out.

Next up, took some shots at Melany's school. Legend has it, at the university, that if any students step on university emblem right near the entrance of the school, they would not be able to graduate. Even though I wasn't a student, I still avoided stepping on the sign when shooting. =P

Next changing into more casual outfits to head out to streets of Georgetown.

I love it when couples bring props for their shoots! It just makes the shoot more unique and so them! =)

Since it was such a nice day out, we stopped by this place called Sweet Green for
some yummy yogurt! The place is also known for their awesome salads too.

Becky & Brian | Clarksburg | Wedding

I had an awesome opportunity to second shoot with Peter Bang early October. When he had told me that the wedding would be on Becky's uncle's farm, I was already excited and couldn't wait to start!

Both Brian & Becky were so sweet and down-to-earth and you definitely see the love just oozing out between the two. They did not need much direction at all for the photos and in fact, I don't think they even realized there were photographers around them shooting. They were so engrossed with each other - haha - just love that. =D

Karen & Craig | Brookeville | Wedding

I had met Karen & Craig about a year ago when I took their mini e-session for their hometown's newspaper. About a month ago, Karen reached out to me wanting to do her hair and makeup for the wedding on 10-10-10 after she went through three unsuccessful trials. I was honored, but also a bit hesitant, since I didn't want to ruin the moment if there was a hair-tastrophy on one of the most important day to any bride. However, after doing a hair trial few weeks before the wedding, that settled my nerves down a bit. I was also there as guest to document their beautiful day. =)

So glad the bride loved her hair/makeup =) That was the nerve-wrecking part of the day. The rest was easy-peasy =)

The wedding was held outdoors at the Inn at Brookeville Farm and indoors for the reception and cocktail hours. It was definitely the perfect setting for a wedding, not to mention, the food was quite awesome. =)

I have to give props to Karen for hand-making those cookie favors - each personalized with a guest's name!

2010 Halloween Baby Costume Party

Amy | Gaithersburg | Fashion Portraits

I like to leave 10% of my photography work in doing something that involves creativity at its best and this shoot was one of them. It makes me think outside of the box and really test my makeup and hair skills. I don't do alot of indoor shoots and I definitely wanted to challenge myself this time, so I've chosen the one place that I frequent often and that would be iRockTV in Gaithersburg. It was the perfect setting and the owners there were so kind enough to allow us to run amuck there. =P

Now for the results from the day:

I had my friend David come out to shoot with me as well and he was trying to convert me to strobist by letting me try out his lights a bit. Result below. =P

However, after seeing some of his gear though kinda scared me away, considering he didn't even bring all of them to the shoot. I'm not sure I will convert anytime soon. I'm just a simple girl who like to bring what I can carry to any shoot. =P

Leena & Gill | Georgetown DC | Engagement

I've known Leena for quite some time now and I was more than happy to take her engagement photos when she had asked me. It took some time to coordinate and finally we were able to get together end of September. The weather was so beautiful and summer didn't want to leave us just yet since it was in the high 80's. Leena and Gill were such troopers tracking along Georgetown DC and took some time getting used to the camera, but I'd say they warmed up pretty nicely. =) Fair warning though, pic overload ahead! =P

I have to thank Georgetown Cupcakes for allowing us to quickly use their seating area for photos. If you haven't had their cupcakes before, they are a definite must-try. Even before 10am, there was already a line forming outside the door. Good thing I had bought some cupcakes the day before! =)

After the little picnic session, it was time to change into the second outfit so we stopped by a library to borrow the restroom. While I was waiting, I figured why not take some photos while we're at the library too. I asked the librarian if we could first and we proceeded along. =D

Next up, we headed out to streets of Georgetown and just walked around having fun.

Julie Lim | Silver Spring | Portraits

When Julie had asked me if I could take her portraits, I could not have been more honored. We had planned to do the portrait that Sunday, the day before WPPI DC Roadtrip were in town Monday, however the weather was not corporating. So we decided to do a quick shoot around Silver Spring during our break in-between workshops. I setup a makeshift makeup area in the back seat of my car and did a smokey-eye on Julie and created a soft tousled look for her hair.

I don't know about you, but I think Julie knows how to work in front of the camera as well as behind it. =P Don't believe me, see for yourself. =)

Happy Mooncake!

Every year around this time, mooncakes are sold like hotcakes to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival otherwise known as Mooncake Festival. There have been many stories that surrounded this festival, but the most famous legend played a possible role in Chinese history. Overrun by the Mongols in the thirteenth century, the Chinese threw off their oppressors in 1368 AD. Mooncakes were the perfect vehicle for hiding and passing along plans for the rebellion. Families were instructed not to eat the mooncakes until the day of the moon festival, which was when the rebellion took place and succeeded.

I don't know about you, but I'm not much into history like my husband is. However, every year I make a point to eat these yummy mooncakes to celebrate. Although the actual date doesn't start until September 22nd, that didn't stop Chinatown Philly from celebrating admidst parades and lion dances.

It also happened to fall on my dad's 50th bday. My dad had bought this while cruising with NCL over Labor Day weekend. I've never seen anything like this, so I had to take a pic.

There's a funny story that happened in FL with my sister's bf, but long story short, don't mess with a kid's favorite fruit. They may come back with their little friends to bully you. =P I've never actually had this particular fruit which is called Sugar Candy Apple, but apparently they taste like mangos. I definitely need to try it one of these days, but until then, a photo to remember by. =)

Last but not least, my favorite person in the whole world right now. My awesome cutie patootie nephew. He's always so happy and giggling and just freaking adorable. I miss him already.

Jenny | Pittsburgh | Boudoir

I'm not sure if many of you know what a boudoir shoot is, but these shoots are normally done before or after a wedding as a gift to hubby. They can be done as hot and revealing as you want like how Tony Yang does it in his "intime" sessions or done as sexy cute as I did with Jenny. I wanted to keep it very light and fun and just show another side of Jenny that her hubby hasn't seen before. As a request, I'm only allow to blog PG stuff; the rest are for her hubby's eyes only. ;P

You wouldn't believe me if I told you, but Jenny is a mommy to a sweet little boy. She's definitely one hot momma! I actually did their family shoot couple months back, so check that out. Hoped you enjoy the pics. =)

Around the World: Europe

I'm making a point to blog more, especially when it comes to traveling, which I enjoy immensely second to photography. Summer came and went and I barely had time to breathe, so let me start at the beginning of summer. Hubby and I had planned a two week trip end of May; first heading out to London for few days to visit his childhood friend then few days in Paris. After that, we headed down to Barcelona to pick up a 7 day Mediterranean cruise hitting places like Monte Carlo, Florence/Pisa, Rome, Naples, and Palma. I must admit that it was one tiring trip, but I'm glad we were able to go before life got too busy.

First up, London

off to help save Asian Elephants from becoming extinct

Next up, Paris

Lastly, NCL cruise

Apparently, this foot was famous and the tour guide told us
to pose with it, so hubby happily volunteered. =P

Some highlights from the trip, Paris was a must-go again for us especially when the euro dollars were so cheap as well as Rome. Going on a cruise saved us alot on hotel costs and we were able to hit alot of cities within short period of time. However, since we only had a day to visit each city, it wasn't enough for us especially ones as big as Rome. To add to that, we went on a national holiday in Rome, so were not able to go into the Colloseum or had time for the Sistine Chapel - both very important places that I wanted to hit up. Ah well, there's always next time for sure. Hope you enjoyed and I apologize for any photo overload. =)

WPPI Road Trip DC!

I had heard about WPPI from last year through a fellow bride turned photographer. At the time, my passion for photography didn't grow as quickly as it has now, so I paid no mind to it. Since then, my brain turned on full speed and I wanted to absorb everything that had to do with photography, starting with attending workshops and networking. Anyone who knows me knows that I love meeting new people and meeting with photographers is no different. I'm not afraid to go up to any stranger and introduce myself, so be forewarned. =) If you see some random girl just coming up to ya and chatting away, that girl could be me. =P

This year has gone by in a whirlwind and it's crazy how one thing can lead to the next. I've met some awesome new photog friends and connected with old friends that could sit for hours and talk nothing but photography. How crazy is that? Yesterday's workshop was no different. Great speakers mixed with great people made the day unforgettable. One particular speaker in mind - Jasmine Star - who in a short period of time that I've known her work - has quickly became one to whom I look up. I had the great pleasure of talking to Jasmine for a little bit and she was just like the person I saw in her Creative Live wedding documentary she had in Seattle. What I took from her platform was "I rather fail at something I love than succeed in something I hate" as well as 'Amen" and "Keep it Real" - haha - words to live by indeed.

After the workshop, Julie, Stefani, Jenny and I headed over to a nearby restaurant to talk about the day. Workshop ended at 5pm, but our conversations did not end until 10pm over several wines and my water (=P). It's always great to unwind and just really connect with fellow photographers who are also going through what I'm going through now. In a competitive world such as photography, it's good to know that there are still some who wants to be allies rather than see each other as competitors. I'm so grateful to have met them now early in the business. =) Let's do it again, but next time Vegas style! ;)

Janice + Thang | NOVA 535 | Tampa Wedding

I went down to Florida to attend my cousin's wedding as guest, but also makeup artist and being a third photographer in between. Let me tell you that that was one hectic day, between making the girls beautiful, but yet making sure I don't miss a moment of Janice's wedding. I was definitely all over the place and had to remember to breathe several times just to calm my nerves down and I wasn't even the bride! =P

It was a lovely wedding and there was some indication of rain for the day. It held out till afternoon sprinkling here and there but overall did not ruin the event. The day started off with a traditional chinese/vietnamese ceremony with groomsmen carrying trays of wrapped gifts over to bride's place. Some introductions took place while the bride's dad went to bring her out to stand next to groom and ceremony began. Then everyone traveled to the groom's place and the same ceremony repeated for the groom's side of the family to celebrate.

While everyone was done with lunch and rest for the evening reception, I grabbed the bride and groom for some portrait session, but first did a quick updo for Janice. It was a pretty funny session to say the least, since Janice alone loves to joke around. However, I was still able to get some serious photos from them. =P

Then it was time for the evening portion of the day for the traditional American ceremony to start. The venue was at Nova 535 - gorgeous venue that featured artwork from local artists around the area. The details that went into the reception were apparent and alot of hard work went into it.

Jen & Ryan | White Oak | Engagement

I've known Jen when we were working together in Pittsburgh several years ago. Since then, we'd catch up every once in awhile and before I knew it, Jen announced her engagement to Ryan. Time sure does fly by. It was the first time I met Ryan and they are quite adorable together. When you're with them, you just can't help but smile at their love.

The day had threatened to rain and we didn't know what to expect, so played it by ear. Thankfully, the weather cooperated and we went to a gorgeous garden right near the house.

Katie & Billy | Princeton Campus | Engagement

Katie and Billy have known each other for, I wanna say, 7 years and you can see that when they argue like old married couples, which I find endearing. It was a perfect weekend to do an e-session with gorgeous weather and just the day before was Billy's bday. With Billy being a huge foodie, they did what normal couples do celebrating birthdays. Katie found several of the best eateries in NYC and took Billy to each one for a little taste-testing treat. Now that's my kinda date.

Since they met each other at Princeton University where they went to school, they took me there to revisit their old alumni. As you can see, we trekked all over campus and below are the results from the day.

Of course, I had to have them jump for joy while they're at it. =)

I had a wonderful time walking through campus and just love the architectural aspect of the university. Katie and Billy, thank you for a wonderful tour of Princeton and hope to visit again.

Sylvian | Toronto | Portraits

Fair warning: always be prepared to have an impromptu photoshoot around a photographer - haha. You never know when to expect it. That's what happened with my cousin-in-law Sylvian. =P We were all at a hotel in Toronto getting ready for a big extended family dinner over 4th of July weekend. Sylvian asked me to help her with a new eyeshadow quad she had recently purchased. After showing her where to apply the shadows, she looked so pretty that I had to do a photoshoot. She was a bit hesitant at first, but definitely didn't take long before she warmed up to the camera. =)

Lily Bee | Old Town Gaithersburg | Portraits

I had the opportunity to hear Lily sing at Kollaboration DC auditions few weeks back and fell in love with her voice. It wasn't long before we decided to get together and do a photo shoot. She wanted vintage; I love vintage, so it was a perfect match.

The day was blistering hot and even threatened to storm, but luckily we were able to get through the shoot perfectly fine before the afternoon shower arrived.

This shoot was particularly awesome to me since Lily did what she did best and sung a song while I shot her. One of my favorite tunes too - "Dream a Little Dream of Me". We also had a little audience, which we didn't mind at all.

Now for the results from the day:

Before I went on my 2 week Europe trip end of May, I had a photoshoot with Kia. Locations are usually the most time-consuming thing for me to find since I'm always looking for the grungiest areas around. So I was definitely happy when I found this area right in the heart of silver spring.

Lisa and I have always said that we would get together again for another photo shoot since the first one went so well. I was inspired on a peacock theme couple weeks before when watching a commercial and immediately thought of Lisa being perfect for it.

Although the day started out late, I believe the session went pretty well. Below are the results from the day.

At the last minute, I decided to switch it up and do a chinese theme and it so happens that Lisa had her room inspired by Asia. I love when things work out perfectly at a whim. =)

I'm beginning to like these shoots more and more although it does take alot of work - me being a one-woman show. However it does let my creativity free which is always nice. Hope you enjoyed!

When Jenny contacted me that she'll be in town and would love to get together for a photo shoot, I jumped on it. I've known Jenny & Simon back when we were all in Pittsburgh and now they have a little addition to the happy family.

I had such a blast doing the shoot not to mention seeing all the many expressive faces of Isaac - too cute!

What a gorgeous family! I'm hoping to visit them sometime in the summer to whip up a mean tiramisu cake and perhaps blog about it? We shall see but in the meantime, enjoy the photos. =)

Ty took his first breath on April 28, 2010 at 6:56pm. I literally screamed when I first heard the news, especially on the sex of the baby since the parents didn't want to know until then. Ironically, I was celebrating a birthday dinner with friends and I'm sure the other patrons were less enthused by my excitement. That didn't faze me in the least and I couldn't wait to head up to CT to see him. He's just the smallest, most precious little thing and we're all just soaking him right up.

It's been less than a day and I miss him already! Can't wait till next time I get to hold him in my arms again. Welcome to the world, Ty! Love, Auntie =)

Also want to give a shoutout to my brother David who's birthday is today. So many things to celebrate in such a short time! Love it =D

Alexandra | Baltimore | Fashion Portraits

I had the fortune of meeting up with Alexandra for a photo shoot that's not your typical portrait session. This was probably the easiest shoot yet since all I had to do was show up and take her photos. She did her own hair and makeup down to her nails as well as creating a whole new outfit. When she told me that she had a lobster outfit ready to go, I didn't know what to expect, truth be told. However, she surprised me enough with her whole ensemble and was impressed with how well she pulled all of her looks together.

Hope you enjoyed the photos as much as I've enjoyed taking them. It was a pleasure working with Alexandra and hope there will be other occassions as well. =)

Lana & Mike | New Haven | Maternity

Over the weekend, My sisters and I had the honor to throw our sister Lana's baby shower in CT. There were a few mishaps on my way up to CT which had to do with sudden stop, 30 Georgetown cupcakes fell forward, and diaper cake ended up all over the backseat floor of the car. Needless to say, the rest of the way didn't fare any better being late to start with, the cupcake fiasco & then stuck in rush hour traffic. Good thing the next day started out much better and the baby shower went smoothly & everyone was happy by end of the day. =)

We started early Sunday morning heading out to Yale campus to take some maternity photos. The weather was cooperating although a bit chilly but overall it went well. I was also playing around with my new lens so still trying to get a hang of it. If hubby and I aren't saving for a house, I'd totally go and splurge on Canon 5D Mark II. =)

Anywho, here are some of the photos from the day:

Three aunties, me being one of them and one uncle are anxiously awaiting the arrival of baby M end of April. Let the countdown begin! I have a feeling it'll be here before we know it. =)

Lisa Noel | Hunt Valley | Fashion Portraits

Lisa contacted me a few weeks back through a site to see if I would be interested in working with her. Of course, I was more than happy to work with her, however, I've never done a portrait session before. A week before the portrait, my sister and I were practicing on each other to just get an idea on doing these sessions.

The chemistry is a little bit different compared to shooting couples because there are always interactions with each other whereas a model would need to be a little bit more creative when it comes to poses and such. Even though Lisa was still pretty new to the modeling scene, I'd say from the photos that it wouldn't take too long before she's fully there.

Here are a few shots from the session.

Lisa was really easy to work with and she had these two little dogs that came in and out. We even have a photo op during a break session. =P

Overall I wouldn't mind working with her again. This session was different, because I was free to do any hairstyle or makeup on her as well as freedom to shoot whatever. It's definitely not the typical sessions that I normally shoot, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. =)

Steph & Ray | Wedding | Newton White Mansion

I attended the event as guest and was requested to be at the reception earlier to attend to the bride for any makeup/hair touchups. Since the bride and groom were still out taking portrait photos, I had some time to kill and decided to take some photos while I was there. The most difficult environment to work with is indoor lighting and that definitely post a great challenge for me at the mansion. I don't have an external flash and don't like using the one that's built-in so these photos are non-flashed. =)

Then the bride arrived and started taking her pics.

This photo was unexpected and I love it when that happens.

The wedding was beautiful and went without a hitch. I had a great time and best wishes to the couple. =)

"You take a Napa, You don't move to Napa"

Quote taken from my fave show "Sex and the City" and I would move to Napa but who wouldn't - it's too gorgeous for words. Anyways, it's been awhile since I've blogged, but the best thing about blogger is that you can back-date the posts so that's what I'll do. ;) Anywho, I'll start with Labor Day weekend when hubby and I took a trip out to San Fran for an unplanned family gathering event. There I wanted to take him out to Napa Valley since it was his first time. Photos speak best so this was what came of the trip =)

Found a lone apple just sitting in the corner waiting for a pic moment. =)
Overall, it was a great trip and we stuffed our mouths to the brim with all the yummy food. Can't wait to go back but for now, I'll have these pics to remember the trip by. =)

From DC to AC

Few weeks ago, I went up to AC for a friend's bday weekend with hubby and another friend of mine from VA and I was a bit shocked to find out how much it has changed since I was little. I've always hated going to AC as a kid bc we always went with the family and relatives and the adults always go into the casinos to gamble while they leave the kids in the lobby to wait for them. It was okay the first 2x maybe but after the millionth time, it was just plain boring. I have no patience now waiting on anyone so imagine me having even less patience as a kid.

Needless to say, AC this time around was definitely a whole lot better. =D It's still a bit shady in certain parts, but you can't complain for the night life as well as the restaurants and the outlet - not to mention a fair and boardwalk that serves funnel cake and italian hot sausages all day long - my two fave fair food. =P Also this time around, we were able to get comp rooms from parents and relatives which made it all the better.

Funny story from the weekend, apparently my friend and I were "mistaken" for underagers and got carded at Bally's. It was a bit hilarious but we both got $50 comp meals for our trouble, which you bet we put it to good use the next day for brunch as well as ordering a few for the road. haha.

I was having too much fun to even whip out my camera all that much so here were a few that I managed to take from that weekend. =P

Never fear though, I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities for another visit to AC in the near future to fully capture the experience on film. =)

Lucy & Don | Engagement | Old Town Alexandria

I've known Lucy for a few years now when we were on the same team competing in dragonboat races for NAAAP-DC and her quirky personality and sense of humor always stood out to me. When I found out recently that Lucy and Don were engaged, I was more than happy to take their pics and couldn't wait to get started. I also remembered that they have a little maltese and suggested to bring him along for the fun. I drove to their place for hair and makeup and then we were off to a park nearby.

Knowing Lucy & Don are avid outdoorsy type ppl from their triathlon pictures last year, I naturally suggested we finish off the session with a bike ride.

After the session, we went back to their place to shoot some Save the Date pics which were hilarious! By then, we were practically starving and they took me to a Pho place nearby which was yummy! The worst part of the evening was having to drive back to my place to sort out the photos because I couldn't wait to see the result! Well that and mosquito bites - they seem to be the normal occurrence with these sessions! =/ Ah well, can't complain when you have great pics to remember by. =) I wish Lucy and Don all the best and cannot wait for their wedding next year. =)

So this was my first referral and I was really excited yet nervous at the same time. I did this right after work with quick makeup so that we still have time to head out before the sun set. Kammy & Rhys | Engagement | Ashburn/Doukenie Winery

So I had the honor of taking my friend's e-pic this past Sunday at Doukenie Winery but first, we met up for lunch to chat and catch up since I haven't seen her in a few months. Afterwards, the fiance had to leave for a meeting at 1pm so we just headed back to their house. On the way there, she realized that when she switched purses, that she forgot her keys in the other one at home. I didn't panick too much bc hey, I'll just do her makeup in the car while we wait for him to get back. It didn't take too long - about 30 mins before he arrived and we went back in to finish.

She had a parasol in the car so of course we used it! hehe. Next few pics are at the winery who btw the owner makes awesome baklava! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. mmm.

Tony Yang Model Workshop

I've always been a fan of Tony's ever since I found him through other brides via blogs a year ago. He was booked for my wedding date so I couldn't have him then, but I did use him for my intime photos otherwise known as boudoir photos. I was definitely nervous but he put me at ease and here's one photo that's PG =P Since then and the wedding, I've gotten more into photography, so naturally once I heard that he was putting together a model workshop, I was very interested. It took some convincing on hubby's part to let me go and when he did, I was on my way Sunday morning to Jersey and drove back down same day.

So glad I went to the workshop even though it was a bit of a drive to go there and come back same day. I learned alot and had so much fun hanging around other budding photographers. I hope I can make to more of his workshops in later future. =)

Engagement Photo Wear

I've been doing engagement shoots for awhile now and here are some of my tips on what to wear or bring to your shoot. Every couple is different and what makes a shoot unique are the ideas that both couple and photographer come up. Above all, have fun and do what comes natural.

When it comes to outfits, they should be kept simple and complementary - not matchy. Try to stay away from crazy prints and bright colors unless it's an accessary such as scarf or tie. I always ask my couples to have two outfits for the day; one casual such as a nice top over jeans and boots and one dressy such as a nice sundress or a little cocktail dress for the girls. With short dress lengths, try to stay with ones that are at least an inch above the knee, no shorter. Guys are pretty simple when it comes to outfits; polo shirt over jeans for casual and a nice shirt over dress pants. Keep nails clean and have clear nail polish on, because there will most likely be a ring shot or close-up details of hand shots.

I normally do the hair/makeup for the girls as an extra fee. I tend to get ideas of what to do for the shoot when it comes to colors and style once my couples have their outfits. The classics are usually vintage glam or romantic looks. However, if you have ideas and want a funkier look, feel free to let me know. I'm always open to fresh new ideas.

When it comes to location, I usually ask couples of places they've met the first time or their first date or location of proposal. Those are usually great places to start and from there, I try to research more for unique spots and generally like to keep the shoot around the same area for simplicity sake.

Props can be used and fun to bring to shoots such as balloons, parasols, flowers or lollipops. They add such a nice quirkiness to the photos. If you have something in your possession that was passed down or had meaning to your relationship, by all means, bring them. Also think about hobbies that you both enjoy that would be nice to incorporate into the shoot such as biking, cooking or mini-golfing.

Stephanie & Ray | Engagement | Annapolis

So before I took my Vegas trip, I offered to do my friend Stephanie's e-session the day before. I also did her makeup and was going to do her hair, but she had it curled before I got there. This was good since it gave me more time to do her makeup. My sister called me a one-woman show: makeup/hair/photographer which I suppose I am, haha.

So Stephanie usually doesn't wear alot of makeup and being in photographs, you need to put on alot more than normal for it to even show up at all. I forgot to take the before pics so I took some from her FB to give you an idea. It was also my first time putting on individual lashes. I must say she could not stop looking at herself in the mirror. haha.. mission accomplished. =P

This was the first e-session I've done so I was a bit nervous on how they would turn out. Anyways, below was how the day went...

We went to Annapolis for the shoot bc it was just gorgeous with the water scene and since it was nice and windy.. haha.. I didn't have to bring my fan.. j/k =P They were such a fun and happy couple - always laughing so it was definitely not hard to catch them in their natural surroundings. haha. The camera just loves them. =) I haven't showed them the pics yet since I need to finish them tonight but I hope they won't be disappointed!! =)

Lana & Mike TTD Session

So I had the honor to do my sister's hair and makeup, as well as being one of the two photographers that day for her TTD session, to celebrate her one year wedding anniversary last October.

She asked for soft curls and pinkish purple wedding look and that was what I did. However, the forecast was a bit gloomy and had sprinkles, so the curls didn't stay the whole day, but the makeup did and she had received compliments throughout the day. (Note to self: do not test out a new hairspray on day of shoot. =P)
